Besides being a real thriller, ‘Suspense ’ is a comedy of the highest class. There is a continuous ripple of laughter in the play, and never at any time an unpleasant line. The real humorist lias no need to descend to questionable innuendo in order to create laughter; he extracts laughter as easily Irom the commonplaces of life as Irom the carefully-arranged comedy. r l ho laughter which interrupts ‘Suspense’ is spontaneous and hearty. and the thrills and surprises with which this remarkable play abounds arc in keeping with the author’s reputation as a master weaver of intriguing plots. Commencing a six nights’ season at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday, 1 Suspense ’ is one of the plays which should not be missed. It introduces the author (William Graeme Holder) in person to the New Zealand theatre-going pnblie, and, with the exception of two members, presents an entirely new company, including Frank Calnon. It is one of the very lew plays which cannot he brought to the picture screen.
