Mr F. Waite, M.P., came up from the south by this morning’s express. Mr T. O’Brien returned to Auckland today.
Mr B. H. Ayling, sports secretary of the Southland Motor Association, is at present in Dunedin in connection with the motor beach races to be held in the south on March 3. Mr and Mrs E. H. Levido have returned from their Australian tour. Mr G. W. Reid left for Wellington this morning to attend the Accountants’ Conference.
A brilliant Now Zealander, Dr J. K. Davidson, arrived back from his London studios by the Ulimaroa yesterday, to be assistant superintendent at Christchurch Hospital. He has come with glowing references from some of the best-known medical men of London. Dr Davidson, who is twenty-nine years old, is an old boy of Wellington College. He was there from 1915 to 1918, being head prefect in 1918. For two years he played a brilliant game at wing three-quarler in the College First Fifteen. In 1919 Dr Davidson went to Otago University, where he qualified in 1923. For twelve months before he went Homo he was in Christchurch Hospital. As soon as he arrived in London Dr Davidson went to Queen Mary's Hospiial in (he East End, where he stayed for twelve months. He then transferred to (he Cancer Hospital, slaying them for six months, and later rfudied at Chelsea Hospiial for two months. In 1926 Dr Davidson gained the diploma of F.R.G.S., Edinburgh. He is going io the H.M.A. Conference in Hamilton, and (hen he will go (o his home, which is at KaiUoura. Wiih bis all-round experience ho should be a big asset to any hospital staff.— Auckland correspondent. The following members of the Kiwi Defence Hide Club left yesterday to compete at the National Rifle Association’s meeting, commencing to-morrow at Trent ham:—President F. .1 Silvios, Riflemen W. Ogg, G. 11. M’Kcicb, R. J. Gilliek, and F- Crave. There arrived in Now Zealand by Min Mataroa on Friday the sixth member of (lie Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ Band to return to this country oh Hie expiry of Army service. The latest arrival is Mr Port Payment, who readied Dunedin from the north last evening. He is under engagement to Messrs Ghas. Begg and Co. here. Four of the bandsmen now reside in Dunedin, and one has gone io Invercargill. A seventh ex-meraber of this band, Mr A. Dicker, of Wellington, has been in New Zealand since 1910. Feeling reference, to the death of Mr Charles Speight was made at Inst night’s meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the president (Mr E. L. Macassey) staling that the late Mr Speight was a great supporter o (amateur athletics, and that for a number of years was closely associated with the Caledonian Society. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to Mrs Speight and family in their loss, members standing in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the late Mr Speight. A number of wreaths sent yesterday for Mr C, Speight's funeral wore without cards, so could not be listed, and many posies were delivered by hand at the graveside.
