CONVERTING A CAR

William Moloney (Mr F. Forrester) [headed guilty to having converted to Ids own use a motor car valued at £4OO, the property of .William James Lindsay. The Senior Sergeant said that a taxidriver had loft his car on tho rank and gone to the pictures. Defendant, who was under the influence of liquor, drove the car away, hut it “ stalled,” and the police came on tho scene. Nothing was known against defendant previously. Mr Forrester said that defendant wont to engage a taxi, and, seeing a car which he believed belonged to a man whom he knew, drove it away as a prank. His Worship said the charge against defendant was a serious one,, ami if was fortunate for him that tho ear had “stalled” and no damage had been done. He would ho fined £lO, with witness’s expenses (10s). SENT TO GAOL. Jack Wihuot Fink was (barged on remand with having obtained from Robert Sydney Orr electric globes valued at £2 IDs by falsely representing that lie was erecting an electric sign at the Waterloo Hotel? Chief-detective- Cameron related the circumstances of the case as set forth at tho previous hearing. His Worship, referring to Fink’s list, remarked that accused was apparently making,.a practice of this class of offence, *iTo would be sentenced to throe months’ imprisonment, with hard labor. Robertson was charged that, at Wnihola. with intent to defraud, he obtained from Agues Dutbio two cows, oiio steer, ami one call, valued at 212, by falsely representing that the purchase was a cash transaction, and that a cheque had been posted. A liist iilfeiider was fined 10s, in default twenly-four hours’ imprisonment, on a charge of drunkenness.
