The engineer (Mr J. C. Collins) reported that since the January meeting visits of inquiry and investigation had been made to Owaka and the Naseby-Maniototo-Strath Taieri district, ’lire monthly report on progress is as follows
Alain Transmission Lines.—Patrol reports as to the condition of main lines were quite satisfactory, but consideration would have to be given to that portion of the main line between Berwick and Clarendon. One interruption took place on February '4, due to a fault at Waipori. In the northern area interruptions on the 11,000 volt line, due to faulty insulators, were becoming too frequent, and it would be necessary to change these insulators with as little delay as possible. Distribution. —In the Balclulba district 2,161 polos had been erected, and 293 miles of wire run. The number of consumers connected to date was 826. The high-tension line from the substation to tho gravel excavator for the Olutha County had been completed, and the men were at present working on a 6,000 volt line and sub-station to the South Otago Freezing Works. In the Milton district 1,653 poles and 185 miles of wire had been erected, and the number of consumers connected, exclusive of tho borough, was now 253. In the Lawrence district 449 poles and 85 miles of wire had been erected to date. The low tension and house services between Lawrence and Beaumont bad been completed, and the Tuapeka Flat lino livened up. Twenty-one consumers have been connected during the month. In the Waitati-Seacliff district 824 poles and 79 miles of wire had been erected, and the number of consumers connected to dale was 346. In the Pal-merston-Waikonaiti district. 1,616 polos and 171 miles of wire had been erected to date, tbo number of consumers connected now Ireing 645. During the month the street lighting at Karitano was completed. Contractor’s Work. —Tho board’s line contractor had practically completed the line to the Waitati sawmill, and will be running 6,000 volt line at Tnmai in about a week’s time.
Transport.—Transport throughout the district was running satisfactorily, and speedometers on all transport were now recording. Supply to South Otago Freezing Works.—Satisfactory negotiations had been completed, and awaited the approval of the committee. This extra loading brought up the question of voltage regulation, which would have to bo settled with as little delay as possible if satisfactory supply throughout the district was to lie continued. Test Room.—Tests had been carried out during the month on several motors, circulators, fuses, and sample meters. Forty-eight meters had boon tested for installation. Tests were conducted on the Seacliff 11,000 volt and Merton 6,000 volt circuits, as a result of which the capacity of the Seacliff sub-station was increased.
The report was adopted, and the special reports in connection with the Wcllingon. Owaka, and Nasehy-Mnnio-toto-Strath Taieri investigations were approved.
