BAD BUSH FIRE
900 ACRES DESTROYED IE AROHA AGAIN THREATENED CARELESS BLACKBERRY PICKERS. [Peb United Press Association.] HAMILTON, February 21. At the result of fire about 900 acres of heavy Native bush and dense fern country were either completely laid waste or irreparably damaged at Wairongomai, To Aroha, yesterday afternoon. The Haines commenced lo show about four miles from the town, and progressed to within a mile of To Aroha itself. It is the largest outbreak in the district within memory, and is believed to have originated from the carelessness of blackberry pickers, who had been boiling the billy in the neighborhood . Many head of cattle had a close call, and great stretches of fencing were destroyed. Only the direction of the wind saved a disastrous conflagration, although serious damage has already been done
