BANDS’ CONTEST

OPENED TO-DAY [Peb United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 17. The New Zealand Band Championship Tournament, under the auspices of the South Island Bands’ Association, began to-day in fine weather, when the pipe and brass band military quickstep competition was held at the Trotting Grounds. To-night the test selection will commences at the King Edward llarracks, when Sir R. Heaton Rhodes will deliver the opening address.
