ISSUE OF SELWYN SHOOTING
PS WASHBCURHE FOUND DROWNED A BAD STORY [Pbu United Pbess Assocutios.J CHRISTCHURCH, February 16. The body of Mrs Wasbbourne, whose husband, William Henry Wasbbourne, shot himself at his father’s farm at Selwyn on Monday night, after having made an attempt to shoot his wife as she lay in bed, was found this evening in a dam near the farm homestead. The woman’s husband went into the room which he shared with her, placed a loaded gun against her head, and fired. Mrs Wasbbourne saved her life by pushing the gun ’aside with her hand, the charge passing through the wall. The room was in darkness, so that Wasbbourne may have left thinking he had killed his wife. He left the room and the house, and shot himself dead. A letter was found in his pocket in which he accused his wife of infidelity.
After Washbournc’s body was found Mrs Wasbbourne was grief-stricken. She was interviewed by a police officer, and very soon afterwards disappeared, A search was at once begun, and had been continued until this evening, when her body was found in the dam.
