STRICTLY BUSINESS
OTAGO MOTORIST BURSTS FORTH Towards the cud of the monthly meeting of the Otago Motor Club last evening, when the members were dwelling in pleasant anticipation on the subject of the Riverton Beach races, a business-like voice—that of Mr J. D. Rea, to be exact—pulled them up with a round turn. Mr Rea stated that for a number of meetings certain matters had been put on to the executive to be dealt with, and he would like to know what had become of them. Ho desired also that tho minutes of the executive meetings concerned should be read, and in particular ho referred to the work at Culling Park corner. Tho Chairman (Mr A. E. Ansell): “ Mr Purdie has the matter in hand, but no steps have been taken yet.” Ho added that the St. Kilda Council had been written to, but it had not replied. The secretary would ho instructed to write again. Mr Rea; “Slack!” Mr Wright; “If any work is done we usually set the ball rolling.” _ Mr Rea: “We have a meinbershipjbf 3,000, and look at_ the number that comes to tho meetings. A beautiful record!”
Mr Ansell; “We have good attendances during the lecture season in the winter lime. Mr Sidey and his Daylight Saving Bill have affected our members this summer. Bowlers arid others don’t find it convenient to attend on these fine nights.” “And where do you get your tea at these meetings?” asked Mr Rea with startling suddenness. “I’venever seen any yet.” Mr Ansell: “At the annual meeting.” Mr H. Halliday stated that there was something in what Mr Rea said about the minutes of the meetings being read over. -Ho had pointed out a home truth. When the members recognised a fault in themselves they should look for a remedy. (“Hear, hears” from those present).
