BULLET WOUND IN HEAD.
David Hunter, a handy man, who was employed at the Wesley College, Pukekoho, was found dead with a bullet wound in the head and a pea rifle beside the body. NAVAL TELEGRAPHIST’S DEATH. The visit of H.AI.E. Diomede to Gisborne was marred by a fatal accident which occurred early yesterday morning. The body of one of the members of the crew, George Oswald Carr, a telegraphist, was found lying in the yard at the back of the Albion Hotel. The deceased, with his mate, Thomas Preece, had attended a dance, and had stayed at the hotel for the night. Carr left the room for a few moments, and Preece fell asleep, not noticing Carr had not returned. Carr’s body was found by the night porter at 5 a.m. The deceased was a married man with one child. His wife is living in England. He had had twelve years’ service with the Navy. RAILWAY LINE FATALITY. While walking along the railway line towards Loburn station (Wellington) yesterday afternoon,-Ernest Seller, of Queen street, Upper Hutt, employed in a railway electrical gang at Petone, was knocked down by a truck and severely injured. Seller was going to the station to catch a train to his home when he heard the whistle of a train doing shunting work._ Thinking it was on the line on which he was walking, he jumped over on to the next set of lines, only to be knocked down by a passing truck, one of the wheels of which passed over his right thigh, practically severing the leg. Medical aid was sought, and the injured man was taken by the free ambulance to the hospital. A later P.A. message announces his death. DEATH UNDER ANESTHETIC. Joseph Allen, aged 48, died under an amesthotic at Christchurch Hospital yesterday. Allen was a retired farmer. SCHOOLBOY FATALLY INJURED. A lad five years of age, named Noel Waller, when returning home from school at Timaru, was struck by a baker’s delivery van. Ho died a few hours later. FOUND IN LAKE. A Rotorua Association message states that the body of Alary Clark, aged forty, who had been missing since Monday afternoon, was discovered yesterday evening in Rotorua Lake in shallow water a mile from the town. Deceased was greatly depressed by bad health. She was of a clever artistic temperament, and her condition preyed on her mind. A note left behind indicated her intentions. A FATAL FALL. ■ A Public Works employee named Robert Samuel, employed at the VVarkareraoana hydro-elcctric works at Kaitawa, fell off a wall yesterday and received serious injuries from which bo died later in hospital.—Wairoa Press Association.
