‘THE FLAG LIEUTENANT'

DRAMA OF THE ROYAL NAVY A picture somewhat out of the ordinary run of photo-plays will be screened at the Octagon Theatre on Inday night, when ‘ The I lag Lieutenant will have its local premiere. Ihe picture is British-produced, and much valuable assistance . was rendered through the co-operation of the Br tish Admiralty. Tho story conties about Dick Lascelles, a flag lieutenant in the Royal Navy, who is in love with Sybil Wynne, the admiral s daughter. Dick s friend, Major Thesiger, of the Royal Marines, is enamored ot a Mrs Cameron, a wealthy widow. Both aie detailed to go to the assistance or a beleaguered garrison, and the ion is finally saved through the bravery of Lascelles, who carries through a scheme evolved by Thesiger. The latter was wounded during the engagement, and loses his memory, and Dick gives bun the credit of carrying through the scheme. He is later asked to explain why he was absent from the fort without permission, but he refuses to disclose his part in the affair. I mally, however, everything is cleared up, and Dick’s part is recognised. Henry Edwards’s performance m the title iole is a revelation of this accomplished actor’s versatility. Accustomed as we have been to the more restrained roles principally under the direction of Cecil Hepworth, a happy-go-lucky naval officer will win him new inends by the thousand. He is abiy by Fred Raynham as his friend, Thesiger, Fewlass Llewellyn, as the admiral; and Lionel, D’Aragon, as the fiery commander ot tne beleaguered fort. Of the feminine members of the cast perhaps the most interest centres upon Dorothy o® B '- combe, an Australian girl, who has now reached fame on the silver sheet. Miss Seacombe plays, the part of Mrs Cameron, whilst Lilian Oldland portrays Sybil Wynne as the feminine lead opposite Edwards.
