PETROL VENDORS & ROAD SIGHS “ I wish to draw attention to the matter of objectionable road signs,” announced Mr A. E. Ansell, the president of the Otago Motor Club, at that body’s monthly meeting last evening. “ Tlie majority of petrol companies have fallen in with our wishes, and have been good enough to remove all such signs. However, there is still one sign which stares you in the face on the Mount Cargill road. I hope we will treat the perpetrators of this disfigurement as they should be treated.” The speaker referred also to smaller signs which had been erected and which blocked the view at dangerous corners. From the motorists’ point of view it was a most objectionable practice. There were methods of advertising which were legitimate, but these did more harm than good from the advertising point of view Mr H. Halliday: What about a *' busy bee ” with tar brushes? Mr Ansell: I have asked our secretary to write thanking all the companies which have removed their signs. I wish to make uncomplimentary remarks about one company which refused.
