THE KAIKORAI BAND

The Kaikorai Band played in the Botanic Gardens yesterday afternoon and night to large attendances. The night programme was confined to contest music, with the exception of two stirring marches, ‘ The Australasian ’ and ‘ Call of the East.’ The symphonique suite, ‘ Scheheraade,’ which is the contest selection in four numbers, was played through, and received with, much applause, the solo cornet and soprano cornet coming in with telling certainty in their various difficult passages, while the dose playing of the deep end of the band was an example of good training and earnest practice. The band leaves for Christchurch on Saturday next, and.it carries the good wishes of many admirers, also wellgrounded expectations that it will earn further honors for the weighty name of “Kaikorai.’’
