TNE TE AROHA FIRE WATER SUPPLY DEPLETED [Fbe United Press Association.]! AUCKLAND, February 13. The fire which swept the slopes of To Aroha Mountain on Thursday and Friday was under control on Saturday, and the safety of the domain and scenic reserve and hot springs area assured. The fire has travelled through a mass of tangled undergrowth to the mountain top in the direction of thousands of acres of bush country controlled by tho Forestry Department, which has taken steps to safeguard the area. Many volunteers remained on the mountain slopes until 3 on Saturday morning, and several had to be assisted home owing to exhaustion. During the height of the conflagration portion of the trOstling carrying a water main was burnt, and a loss of valuable water supplies from the already seriously depleted borough reservoir was occasioned. The mayor states that full measures are being taken to sheet home tho responsibility for the unauthorised lighting of the fire in the Ruakaka area.
