ESTIMATED YIELDS INCREASE IN WHEAT The following estimated average yields per acre of wheat, oats, and barley for the season 1927-28 have been compiled from reports furnished by stock inspectors of the Department of Agriculture throughout the dominion, anil were published in the ‘Gazette’ last Friday:—

In accordance with the above estimates the total yield ot wheat loi the dominion should be approximately 9.200.000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 7,952,422 bushels for the season 1926-27. • . , The percentage of oals threshed ior the five seasons ending with 1920-21 was 27.05 of the total area under that crop. Assuming that a similar proportion is threshed this year, the total yield of grain should he approximately 3.650.000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 4,997,535 bushels for the season 3926-27. Estimated average yields ot barley were furnished this year lor the hrst time. The percentage of this crop threshed . for the five seasons ending with 1926-27 was 98.16 ot the total area, under that crop. Assuming that a .similar proportion is threshed this year, the total yield of gram should be approximately 750.000 b™hels, a-s against an actual yield ot 1,-43,33u bushels for the season 1926-2 1.
