GOITRE CAMPAIGN IN SCHOOLS
TABLET DISTRIBUTION STOPPED (.Special to the ' Stahl’] CHRISTCHURCH February 10. Potassium iodide_ tablets are not now being distributed in the schools. Dr Paterson, Director of the Division of School Hygiene, has notified the Canterbury Education Board that it has been decided to discontinue the preventive and curative treatment for goitre which was carried out in the schools during the last four years. A report on the result of this tretto ment, which has been generally benflfe licinl, is being drawn up. The use of iodised salt is recommended to the public in areas where goitre is endemic. Individual sufferers from goitre are advised to seek medical opinion before they begin any form of treatment.
