“BOOST” YOUR GOODS

FORGAN SMITH ADVISES H.Z. [Special to the ' Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. A word of advice to Now Zealanders to “boost” goods manufactured in New Zealand was given by the Hon. Forgan Smith, Deputy Premier of Queensland, at a civic reception tendered to lnm_ to-day. “ I found in Dunedin that you are producing in your woollen mills a product equal to anything in the Southern Hemisphere.” he said. “I found, however, on going to procure some or those goods, that there was no attempt on the part of those in business to push New Zealand goods. The first line of underwear that we were shown was an imported line of goods. It was of good enough quality, but the point I am trying to draw attention to is that lop-sided development is no good to any country. Yo should develop your primary industries and your secondary industries, then you will find room for your boys and girls in the skilled trades of the country, and keep your money distributed as far as possible among your own people. There are many jokes told about Americans and their methods of boosting their own country. Personally, I think that that is a good tiling to do.”
