The Otago Farmers’ Co-op. Association of N.Z., Ltd., has received the following cable from London;—“Butter market firm, with more inquiry, after slight hesitation. New Zealand, 160 sto lG4s. Cheese, slow, 91s to 925. Lamb: Large supplied home killed and Argentine causing slow inquiries. _ New Zealand value holding, but a in the latter part of February is anticipated. Mutton; Light-weights firm, heavy-weights unchanged.” SHEEPSKIN SALES. LONDON., February 9. At the sheepskin sales 2,742 bundles were offered, of which 1,323 were New Zealand and 1,103 Australian. There was a good selection, especially of New Zealands. There was a good attendance and keen competition. The Home trade bought freely, and the Americans participated. Prices advanced compared with December 15, merinos by 71 per cent. 1* ino crossbreds advanced by 10 to 15 per cent., medium 10 per cent., and low 10 to lo per cent. Tho dredgemaster of the Upper Nevis reports that, owing to abnormal conditions in re scarcity of water, he has had to curtail opening out operations during the past week, and without tho regular power he cannot work any depth to the full capacity of the buckets, owing to the hard nature of the red wash. The dredge is working well, and with a little rainfall these adverse conditions will be removed.
