CAR AND CYCLE COLLISION
CHARGE AGAINST HORSE TRAINER [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 9. Hearing of a charge of negligently driving a motor car so as to cause actual bodily harm to Percy John Aldridge and Norman Pnrata, made against Albert Goodman, horse trainer, was continued in the Supreme Court. Goodman, in his evidence, said that after leaving Trentham Hotel he did not exceed thirty miles per hour. He noticed Hazelwood’s car on its correct side ahead, approaching the scene of the accident, and when about 50yds behind Hazelwood’s ear, the latter appeared as if it were going to stop. Witness was then 30yds behind. Hazelwood turned to the left, witness taking that as an indication that the car was going to stop. Hazelwood and witness both eased a little. Witness had a clear view of the road, and did not see any traffic. As witness turned to the right Hazelwood also moved to the right, which may have obstructed his (witness’s) view, and sent him further to the right. He had not quite got up to Hazelwood when he saw the cycle with two men, which came between the two cars. He applied his iuakes. When the collision occurred his car was about half-on and half-off the bitumen. He estimated that be pulled up within 25ft. Under cross-examination he said he would not swear that he did not have any drinks on Saturday morning at the Trentham Hotel. He may have had a drink at the Provincial Hotel. Witness suggested that he did not see the cyclists because they were on their wrong side of the road.
