ROTORUA MEETING

[Special to the ‘Star.’] AUCKLAND, February 9. The Rotorua Racing Club’s annual meeting will open on Saturday, and will be concluded on Monday. The day’s programme commences with the Ponutu High-weight (1m), for which IV katalri, Bold Front, and Lady Spalpeen look the pick of the handicap. The 'hack sprint (Hot Springs Handicap) lias drawn the largest field,of the day. Palmares, Day Guide, and Glenetta may have the best chances of the fourteen acceptors. In the Mokoia Handicap (7f and 80yds) the top weight, Matinee, will have plenty of friends, though support will also be forthcoming for Macroom. There is a field of eleven in the Cup (10f), of whom Uralla, Alonsoa, and Scat look nicely placed. Cynthia N. and The Lover have the best credentials on the Geyser Hack (1m), while for the open sprint (Tourist Handicap) Flying Juliet, Dave, and Macroom should run a smart six furlongs. The Arawa Park Handicap will bo the third mile event, for which the top weights (Le Choucas. Matinee, and Tekoroke) will probably dispute favoritism, although Wedding March is also in the race. The Waimanga Stakes (sf) concludes the afternoon’s sport. Venus, Abbey, Rangi, Kokiri, and Winnington appear the best of a moderate lot.
