MARRIAGE PERMITTED
ESCORT TO ALIAS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 9. There was a dramatic ending in the Supreme Court to-day to a case in which Stanley Uren Thomas, formerly a canvasser 011 behalf of the scheme for the establishment of a new city hotel, was charged with the theft of various amounts totalling £7l 10s. The accused’s original plea was ons of not guilty, but towards the end of the trial bis counsel (Mr Bryce Hart) altered it to one of guilty, and Thomas was ' remanded for sentence until Saturday. ! Counsel then made application for bis client to bo admitted to bail in order that be might get married.
Mr Justice Reed said be could not allow bail. The prisoner was to be sentenced on Saturday. His Honor asked the Crown Prosecutor what facilities could be granted by the prison authorities for tho marriage to take place.
After a conversation' between His Honor and counsel tho judge intimated that he was prepared to allow Thomas to come to town under the escort of a warder and a plaiu-clothes officer between to-day and Saturday. Addressing the chief gaoler, His Honor said; “If you require any further authority you may apply to me.’
