The school children of Lawrence and Waitahuna had this day a x - eal seaside treat. From the sun-baked districts inland a large batch of them, numbering about 5/0, including grown-up relatives and friends, arrived in Dunedin by a special train shortly before 11 this morning, and at once proceeded to St. Clair by means of extra cars, which were put on for the occasion by the tramways department. A refreshing picnic was in progress all the . afternoon, and a special train was provided for their return at 5 p.m. Other fortunate children who also had an outing to-day were those of the combined Catholic schools. Two sj/ecial trains were provided to take them to Evansdale, where their picnic was held. Both trains, the one at 9.20 a.m. and,.the other at 9.40 a.m., were well filled, and a. large number of Port Chalmers children hoarded the latter at that station.
