LAY'S RECORD JAVELIN THROW

AUSTRALIAN CYCLISTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. His own Australian and New Zealand javelin-throwing record of 2051 t lljiu was beaten by Stun Lay at a meeting at New Plymouth on Saturday night. He threw the javelin 209 ft 4in iu perfect style. The weather conditions wer absolutely calm, and appropriate precautions were taken. Applicuprite precautions were taken. Application will be made to the New Zealand A.A.C. for recognition of the record. The Australian cyclists competed at the meeting. In the mile event Standen, from 20yds behind scratch, won in 2min 23sec from his colleague, Gray, on a similar handicap Gray won the final of the half-mile from Roebuck and Dykes (25yds) from 2Uyds behind. In this event Standcn, in attempting to avoid a fallen competitor, collided with a fence and injured one of his legs which Had been previously damaged. He was carried off the field and attended by a doctor, but later ho insisted on competing in the two miles, which he actually won from Gray (both 25yds behind scratch) and Dykes (25yds >n front of scratch). Time, smin 28sec.
