ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
FATAL COLLISION WITH DOG. An inquest was held at Invercargill concerning the death of Gordon Irvine Warren, who was found unconscious lying beside his motor bicycle near Makarewa, on Thursday, and died later in tho Invercargill Hospital. A verdict was returned that deceased was accidentally killed through being thrown from his machine when it collided with a dog. THREE INJURED. A serious motor collision, involving severe injuries to James Turner, Jack Cooper, and Reginald Cook, employed by the Colonial Sales Company, Auckland. occurred at the intersection of the Marten north boundary. A small car, driven by H. J. Thompson, was proceeding along the main street, when another car was observed coming out of a side road. Mr Thompson slowed up, but the other vehicle careered across at great speed, leaving a cloud of dust. Simultaneously a third ear, driven by A. Forno, of Auckland, came from the direction in which the second car had gone, and crashed into the first car, causing it to swing completely round. Thompson had a remarkable escape, but Forno’s car went on about 20yds, and then somersaulted, pinning 'the five occupants underneath. Turner, Cooper, and Cook were found to he severely injured, and were sent to the hospital. Forno and Stanley Holtbouse escaped with minor bruises. Their ear was almost totally wrecked. DROWNED IN SWIMMING POOL. The inquest on William Connelly, aged twenty-two, who was drowned in the Khandallah swimming pool on Tuesday, was held at Wellington. The evidence showed that the deceased, after bathing, returned to the water, saying he would swim across to the dressing room. His companion missed him after two or three minutes, and told the caretaker, who dived in, and recovered the body. All efforts to restore breathing were fruitless. The Coroner said that the deceased might have had a heart attack, for had he got into difficulties he would probably have attracted the attention of others. There were some slight signs of death from drowning, and a verdict to that effect would be returned.
