Mr W. Forgan Smith, Acting Prime Minister of Queensland and Minister of. Agriculture, accompanied by his wife, two daughters, and his private secretary, arrived from the north by train tins afternoon, and were met by the mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) and the mayoress. The party will stay here till Thursday. Mr T. M. Wilford and Mi's Wilford leave by the Ulimaroa on February 10 for Shanghai to see their son, and proceed thence via Canada to London. Miss White, who recently resigned from the Inch Valley School, lias_ accepted a. position in Solway Girls’ College, near Masterton, and left Dunedin this morning for the north. Mr W. Watson went to Christchurch to-day to attend the wedding ol his son. A cable message announces that Miss M. E. Hervey, of Columba College (who took a special course 'at the Bjelke Retersen School in Sydney), has passed all her examinations in senior grade work. The course comprises advanced physical culture in alt its branches, including medical gymnastics and corrective posture, besides rhythmic, classic, and Greek dancing. A cablegram from London states that Mr Dion Titheradge (the dramatic author and actor), and Miss Madge Stewart were married at a registry office. Dean Fitchett, who is to preacn at All Saints’ Church to-morrow evening, delivered his first sermon there, as vicar of the parish, in succession to the Rev. Robert Loftus Stanford, on the first Sunday in February of 1878, so that to-morrow’s service will bo th« Dean’s entry upon the fiftieth year of his incumbency. Although the rev. gentleman ■ has resigned from the charge, he is manfully holding, on until the arrival of the new r incumbent, who is not expected to reach the dominion till about August. No other clergyman in Dunedin now has had such a term of active duty as nearly half a century. His appointment dates from the same year as that in which the Rev. Rutherford Waddell took charge at St. Andrew’s, ami be retired awhile ago. Fifty-eight motor oars, many or them carrying country friends of the Armour family, formed the procession at Mr A. B. Armour’s funeral yesterday afternoon. Wreaths were sent by the Commercial Travellers’ Club, the Dunedin Jockey Club, the Otago Hunt Club, and several other bodies. The services at the Forbury road residence and at the graveside at Anderson’s Bay were conducted by the Rev. J. Ernest Adams. Mr T. E. Wilkins, who met his death in the same road accident, was also interred at Anderson’s Bay yesterday, and the mourners were numerous, or all classes. Requiem Mass at Mosgiel preceded the conveyance of the remains to town, and the religious rites at the cemetery were conducted by the Rev. Father Collins, administrator of the Dunedin diocese. Mr Joseph Biggins, the third victim of the mishap, was laid to rest at the East Taieri Cemetery in the presence of mourners who came from near and far. Thd Rev. W. W. Ewart, of St. Luke’s, Mosgiel, was the clergyman at this funeral. Latest arrivals to the City Hotel include Messrs A. E. Simmonds and C. O’Shea (Sydney), Mr L. Gawne (Adelaide), Mr T. A.
