CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
EREVENTION SOCIETY MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon, there being present the Rev. VV. Saunders (in the chair), Mrs Porteous, Miss Porteous, Messrs W. F. Sligo, Crosby Morris, }V. D. Snowball, and P. Johnson. The Traffic Manager of Railway wrote advising that all possible care was taken when shunting wagons containing live stock to prevent injury. If there were any specific cases of damage to live stock lie would be glad to have particulars so that the matter could be fully investigated. “That is only one aspect of the
trouble,” said Mr. Sligo, “the trouble is that sometimes stock is delayed on the road, though perhaps the Railway Department can not be blamed for that.”
The letter was received. A complain was received concerning the delay in the consignment of ducks on the railway from Milburn to Christchurch, which the secretary reported had been investigated satisfactorily. The fixing of the date of the annual meeting ivas left to the president and the secretary.
