FIRST DAY. The Egmont Summer Meeting was opened at Hawera yesterday in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance and the track was hard, but with a good sole of grass. At the straight entrance he held an advantage of three lengths from Mint Leaf, Orazone, and Hynanna, the last-named rolling brilliantly over the concluding U'Oyds to beat Mint Leaf by a length, with Bright Glow a bare head back.
