CHARGE OF LOITERING TO BET

AUCKLAND, February 3. Frances Robert Bennett was charged in the Police Court wit h loitering _ all Devonport for the purpose of betting on January 28 and 30. The Chief-detective said that Bennett was a bookmaker and had no other occupation. He had an office ip Swanston street, with no name on the door, which was barred inside. There was a telephone, the number of which was not listed. Witness produced a double chart -which, he said, has published by Bennett. It had Bennett’s sign, “Bumble Dee.” The chart, which was picked up in the street, shpwcd that Bennett had a £1,500 book on the- Cup and Railway double at Christmas. Dc-' fondant was hanging about the gates of the Takapuna course on both race days, and was visited by many wellknown punters from the course. Accused denied the charge, and decision was reserved.'
