SYNTHETIC PETROL

GERMANY'S REPORTED SUCCESS IMPERIAL RESEARCH HOARD INVESTIGATING. LONDON, September 10. (Received September ‘JO, at 11.45 am.) The Imperial Fuel Research Board is investigating the German reports ol' petrol from brown coal. The department slates that the German results have justified the forecasts, it might mean an industrial revolution in Australia, owing to its illimitable supplies of lignite and the consequent possible independence from imported petrol. Nevertheless there are two important reservations. The Germans have not disclosed the scientific method of production, and the new process may be successful in Germany, but •! may not be necessarily equally successful in Australia unless the brown coal is chemically similar to that of Germany.
