ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL REPORT > 'Tlio sport of rowing in Otago was given a decided impetus by the performance of the Otago Club crew in winning tho principal races in Australia last year and in annexing roi the sccpnd time the Zealand championship. Reference to tlio success of the crew is made in the annual report of the Otago Rowing Association to be presented at the annual meeting next Monday night. The "report states that regattas were held at Macaudrew’s Bay, Broad Bav, Karitane, Ravensbourne, Port_ Onaijuers, Queenstown, and the association s regatta at Port Chalmers, weather conditions for all being favorable, except as regards those held at Port Chalmers, at which conditions were not m favor of tho competitors. Kantano proved a most successful day, and promises to remain a fixture. The Edmond Shield was competed for at the association’s regatta, when ■the Otago Club’s senior crew beat the Southland crew, and thus brought the shield back to this city. The annual contests for challenge trophies resulted as follows: Premiership Shield (donor, late Mr L. R. Wilson), Queen’s Drive. Senior Cup (donor Mr i l . W. Mitchell), Queen’s Drive. _ . , Following the invitation for a visit to Melbourne, the Otago Club’s champion crew, consisting of F. Brough (str), J. Wcrges, C. J. J!‘Ara, and P. S. Anderson, represented New Zealand, and with great success, winning the chief event—via., the Henley Gup and also participated a week later at ..the Victorian regatta,, winning the senior fours and senior pairs, the latter crow consisting of Messrs Brough ' an’d Werges. . , ... The championship regatta was held at Picton. the honors falling to the Otago crew, who again contested the - champion lour and wero successful, in retaining the honor as champions. There was no doubt that this crew’s success was the result of serious training, and was an object lesson to •others. .... Two eight-oared boats arrived during, the past season. One was at present stored at Port Chalmers waiting shed accommodation, whilst the other was rigged and ready for launching from Otago’s shed, this club’s members doing the nece.%ary work. No doubt the coming season would seo one, u not . two, eights out on the water.
