Mr P. L. Halslccl went to Christchurch to-day by tile 11..‘M train. Mr T. C. Conll left for "Wellington by the through express to-day. She was beloved throughout tho district for her kindness and Christian charity to tho poor and the sick. On Saturday morning Mr Allan Rose, who is leaving tho firm of Messrs A. and T. Inglis, where he has been employed for a number of years, was the recipient of a presentation from the members of tho staff. Mr Lothian (general manager) made the presentation on behalf of tho staff, and wished the recipient every success in his now appointment. On Saturday morning opportunity was taken by the staff of Messrs Arthur Barnett, LtiL, to make u presentation to Mr .1. Kendall, who for the past 2) years has been the firm’s buyer for the hosiery, glove, and fancy departments. Mr S. Lawn, in asking Mr Kendall’s acceptance of a dinner service, voiced the good-will of the staff and the esteem in which tho recipient was held by all his fellow-employees, specially wishing Mr Kendall success in his new position with Messrs Milne and Choycc. of Auckland, for which city Mr and Mrs Kendall and family leave to-morrow morning. New arrivals to the Grand Hotel include Mr Sydney Smith (Auckland), Messes G. C. M‘Canl and T. A. Blair and Mrs G. J. Anderson (Wellington), Messrs D. N. Anderson. "W. J. Truscott, and G. R. Boucher (Christchurch), and Mr J. 11. Wilson (Tawannl).

Among the gnosis at tho Excelsior Hotel are Alessrs R. 0. Talbot and J. 0. Wilson (Christchurch), Alessrs J. O’Shaughnessy, T. A. Sheeby, and A. Alagnns (Timnrn), and Air C. J. Smith (Queenstown).
