DUNLOP ROAD RACE Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, September 18. Ono hundred and forty-three riders competed in tho Dunlop amateur and professional cycle road race from Goulburn to Sydney. Heavy rain fell over the whole course on Friday, filling tho holes in tho road, and making very slippery conditions. Although it was find when the riders lelt Goulburn, rain was experienced lor tho first twenty miles and thence lor over 100 miles, accompanied by a cold southerly wind. In the professional race Him took tho lead before,'ten miles had been covered, and for 113 miles was compelled to ride unpaced. Ho rode a great race from the start, and at Mossvale was leading by nine minutes. The general opinion was that bo would not be able to keep up the fast pace, as ho is forty-eight years of ago, but ho was able to piaintaiu his long lead, and, increasing his advantage, won with case. In'tho amateur .race bhaw rode strongly throughout, and, moving up at Mossvale, obtained tho lead at Picton. He retained tho leadership with ease, winning comfortably. Following are tho results: — Professional Race.—P. J. Hird (New South Wales), 1; D. J. Anderson (Victoria)', 2; R. Compton (New South Wales), 3. Time, (3h 44min. The fastest lime was recorded by P. Osborne, who covered tho distance m oh 56min 40 l-ssec, reducing all previous records. Amateur Race.—J. A. Shaw (New South Wales), 1; S. O’Sullivan (New South Wales), 2; A. Pontifex (New South Wales), 3. Time, 6h.33mm 39 1-Gsec. Fastest time, R. W. Lamb (.Victoria)', 6h Omin 44 4-sscc. PERTH ROAD RAGE PERTH, September 18. Tho road race from Beverley to Perth (110 miles) was won by F. James m Mi Sosec.- A protest was lodged against tho winner on the ground that ho deviated from tho proper course. The hearing was adjourned. FIFTY-MILE ROAD RACE The fifty-milo amateur road championship of Auckland resulted as follows;—W. Dwight (Bmin), 1; H. S. M'Elroy (Bmin), 2; G. Clark (Bmm), 3. J. H. Wade (scr), who covered the distance in tho fastest time ol 21i 24min 59soc, won the championship., TWO-MILE RACE During the interval of tho representative Rugby League match _at the Caledonian Ground a two-mile amateur cycling handicap was decided, fifteen riders facing the starter. With three laps to go tho field was well bunched, the back-markers, Ockwcll (syds behind scratch), Templeton (scr), and M'Millan (25yds) being about 30yds behind the leaders, Cooper (150yds) and Trail (180yds). In a good finish, Ockwcll came strongly to challenge Cooper up the straight but the-latter a promising young rider bung on to win by two lengths from Ockwcll, Trail being close up third, with Templeton fourth. Ockwoll was disqualified for failing to take a lap and the result was thus as follows ; Cooper (150yds) ... I Trail (ISOyde) ... 2 Templeton (scr) ... o Fifteen starters.
