DUNEDIN CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING -Mr G. A. Wycherley (president) was in tho chair at the annual meeting or tho Dunedin Cricket Club, held on Saturday night. There was a good attendance, and the proceedings indicated a Jive interest in club affairs and the anticipation of a success! ul season ahead. . _ .The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report, complimented the members on tho good-fellowship displayed during the past year, and expressed , pleasure at tho success of the junior ; divisions, a success which augured well for the future of the club, especially when some of the averages of those young cricketers were noted. But the proper development of these players was endangered, said tho chairman, by the wretched wickets which they had frequently to play upon. Doubtless it was unreasonable to expect perfection in the case of public reserves, but considerable improvement upon present conditions should bo possible. In speaking of the club’s finances, .Mr Wycherley urged the necessity for prompt payment of subscriptions. Cricket clubs, he said, rarely had a largo credit balance to work upon and dilatoriness on the part of members in paying their dues was embarrassing. The club had pledged itself to contribute at least £lO per annum to the conch.fund, and this would doubtless be willingly contributed by members. The speaker’ concluded, by predicting a bright and prosperous year for cricket in Dunedin. The report was adopted, as was tho statement of receipts and expenditure. The matter of organising a team to go into tho country on Labor Day was left in tho hands of Mr W. Strang, _ On the motion of Mr W. Fleming it was resolved that the club’s delegates fo tho O.C.A. urge the necessity for catering more thoroughly for the younger players, say from the third grade down, and suggest that a scheme he evolved whereby combined or representative matches be arranged with country nr other outside teams. Mr ' Fleming also expressed the opinion that the resumption of Christmastime trips by a club team into the country was desirable, and a resolution was passed recommending the incoming committee to arrange for flu's to bo done if it was found practicable. The notice of motion to bo brought before t lio annual mooting of tho O.C.A. concerning the method of determining tho winners of tho various grade shields was discussed, and, on the motion of Mr Fairmnid, it was decided to instruct the club’s delegates to support the first clause of Mr Bowland’s motion, but to bring forward or •support an amendment to tho second danse providing for second grade (B section), third grade, and fourth grade competitions being decided on a point system, two points being awarded for a win and one point for a draw.
