Progress, s.s, (4.5 p.m.), 453 tons, Hay, for Port Waikato via ports. Storm, s.s. (6.5 p.m.), 479 tons, Sheppard, for Wanganui via ports. The Breeze arrived this morning from Kaikoura. She is timed to sail on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington; and Wanganui. The Kaliika arrived yesterday alternoon from Westport. She Avas to sail this afternoon for Blufl, and is to return to Dunedin on Wednesday to load for Napier and Gisborne via t ports. The Waipiata loads at Auckland next Saturday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru. The Wingatui Avas to leave Lyttelton this afternoon, and is to arrive here to-morroAv. She loads out on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Tho Corinna is to leave Wellington on Wednesday, and is duo here on Friday to load for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. The Opihi loads at Westtport at tho end of next week for Oamaru and Dunedin. , r . Tho Karctu ivas to leave Lyttelton to-day for Oamaru and Dunedin. She is due here on Tuesday to load lor Sydney via Bluff. Her freight includes transhipments ex the Moldavia, Saikop Mam, Garada, Tonrooing, Altona, Himalaya Marn, Abbekerk, Waloja, Arafura, Changtc, Orannr, Mildura. Bcrrima, Osterlcv. and Citv ol Palermo; also a quantity of timber, poles, and fruit.
THE FERRY SERVICE. Ilho Wahine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.40 a.m. today, and passengers and mails connected with the 8.50 express. THE WEST ISLIP. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the West Islip, from Los Angeles via northern ports, is expected to arrive hero on Wednesday. CANADIAN CHALLENGER DELAYED. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Canadian Challenger, from Montreal via northern ports, is hoav due here to-morroAv. She was delayed off Timaru yesterday by fog. The vessel is timed to leave here on Monday for Bluff, THE MANUKA. Advice received by flic Union Company states that the Manuka is being delayed by bad Aveather eu route Irom Melbourne to Wellington. The captain radiod that the vessel cannot reach Wellington before Tuesday. She now leaves there on Wednesday, and Lyttelton on Thursday, to arrive here on Friday. She Avill sail the same day for Bluff and Melbourne. CITY OF BATAVIA. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. vise that tho City of Batavia arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon Irom Ncav York. It is expected that she will ho despatched on Tuesday for Wollington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at* this port about September 3U. THE SUSSEX. The Union Company advises that the Sussex left Auckland yesterday lor Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due here about the end of next week. PERSONAL. Mr D. J. M'Kcnzic,'second officer of the Katoa, has been invalided ashore, suffering from influenza. His place lias been taken by Mr G. A. Herbert, late of the Tamahme Mr P. W. Calvert, third officer of the Kaiwarra, has left the vessel on transfer. Mr E. A. LaAA’son, third officer of. the Corinna. has left the vessel lor instructions. The Kaituna has been recommissioned, with tho following engineers:— Chief, Mr L. O. Daves; second. Mr L. Blorafield; third, Mr A. P. Train. Mr M. J. Barr has joned the Wairuna as fourth engineer, relieving Mr J. Longley for holidays, Mr L. \V. Williams, second engineer of file Wingatui. has gone on holiday leave, his place being taken by Mr J. C. Deer. Mr L. G. Calnon is now third engineer of the Wingatui. Mr J. Kettle is hoav chief engineer of the Wingatui, relieving Mr Burt, ivlio lias retired from the Union Com pany’s service. Mr A E. Lilly, formerly second officer of the Poolta, ivho was seriously injured in an accident on that vessel at Port Stephens, and had been in hospital -at Neivcastle foV some months, returned to New Zealand by the Tahiti on Monday.
SCHOONER RIRA TO BE SOLD. The schooner Rira, which lias made may trips to Dunedin I'rom Auckland, h noAV reported to bo laid up and under offer for sale at Auckland oAving to slackness of trade. The Rira, which was built in 1906 at Auckland for the Pacific Island trade, is a vessel of 131 tons gross register.. She was originally known as the Koreru, and until a ieAV years ago Avas running among tlie Pacific Islands. Since her purchase by tho Nobels Explosive Company site has "been running on the New Zealand coast, Avilh occasional trips to Melbourne. NEW FERRIES NAMED. Manly and Brookvalc are the names selected for the tivo hoav ferries building at Old Kilpatrick for tho Port Jackson and Manly Steamship Company. They arc expected to bo in commission bv tho end of tho year, and probably Avill replace the Bingarra and Kuringgal. A speed of IGi knots will enable them to make tho journey from Circular Quay to Manly in 25mm, being smin faster than .tho present steamers. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
