TO-DAY'S GASH FRIGES The guide gives the prices rulinfl in the city shops for goods passed over the counter. Eggs are now selling at is 6d to is 8d a dozen. Butter is is sd and Is 9d lb, and bacon Is 2d lb. Cheese is selling at 1s and Is 3d lb. Two prices have been standardised, cooking figs now being 6d and prunes 4d fb. Meat prices are firm, mutton still selling from 2d to 7|d, and beef from 3d to lid. Fish is very scarce, and prices are:—Groper, lOd lb; ling, 6d lb; blue cod, 1s lb; soles, from 4s doz.; flounders, from 6d each; smoked blue cod, Is 3d lb; smoked barracouta, from Is each; smoked red cod, from 4d each; whitebait, Is 3d glass; oysters, Is 5d and 2s pottle. Prices for fruit are:—Pears (Winter Coles), 8d lb; bananas, 8 for Is; Delicious apples, 6d and 8d lb; Jonathans, 4d and 6d lb; small dessert apples, 3d lb; passion fruit, 8 for Is; mandarins, 10 for Is; Australian Navel oranges, 6,5, 4, and 3 for Is; California lemons, 3d each; Australian lemons, 5 for Is. Vegetable prices are-Potatoes, 7s Cd a cwt, or 121 b for Is; carrots, 101 b for Is; parsnips, 81b for 1s; cabbages, 6d and 8d each; cauliflower, 3d, 4d, 6d, and 8d each; swede turnips, 141 b for Is; lettuce, 4d to 6d each; rhubarb, 8d bunch; hothouse cucumbers, 2s.
