GREEN ISLAND ROAD
REOONSTR ! JGTSOiI PROPOSALS The Works Committee of the City Council will report to the next council meeting that tho Highways Board hud received tenders for the reconstruction of the Green Island road in (a) tar scaling or (b) tarred macadam. The last agreed quota for the cost of the work provided for the council paying £761. The lowest tenders for the job were: —(a) For the tar sealing, £5,632. (b) For tlio tarred macadam, £6,357. The officers of tho hoard conferred with the city engineer, who agrees with them that the tarred macadam quote would give much tho better value of the two proposals. The increased cost to the council for the tarred macadam road would be £l5B, and the committee was of opinion and recommended that such additional contribution bo now authorised in view of tho fact that a much better and more durable job would bo obtained.
