REPORT EXPECTED IN FORTNIGHT Tiro E.P. and L. Committee, of the City Council has conferred with the city engineer on tho subject of expediting tho preparation of tho report on the now dam on. the Waipori River, with a view to bringing the matter to a definite stage with tho least possible delay. The city engineer fully explained the many vitally . important points that were involved in the design. and stated that tho work was well forward, and that he had every reason to hope that ho would ho in a position to give tho committee an estimate of the probable cost of the dam, about 110 ft in height, for the meeting of the committee on Wednesday, September 28. The full details of the design would not ho completed by that date, but the city engineer was hopeful that the work would be sufficiently advanced to enable him to submit his estimate. The committee was assured that tlic work was being pushed on with all possible haste, and that ho (the city engineer) fully appreciated the necessity for proceeding with the task with the greatest possible expedition.

When tho city engineer’s report comes to hand the committee, will go into tho whole question forthwith, and, if at all possible, submit its findings ho council at the first meeting of the council after September 28.
