HUNT CLUB MEETING

TRAINING NOTES The track at Wingatui is drying up well under the present lino weather, and a continuation until Saturday will assure a good track for the Hunt Chin Meeting, which will commence at 12.15 A number of horses engaged at the meeting were exercised this morning, the fast work being done on the extreme outside of the course proper. Towards the finish of the work tho trade had improved considerably, and the half-mile run by Black Duke and Overhaul in 52 3-ssec was easily the best sprint of the morning. Most ot the other half-miles occupied between 53sec and 51 see. Arpent was sent six furlongs alone, and took Imin 22scc, and appeared to be stopping badly over the last halffurlong. Ho will require to finish on better on Saturday to have a chance. Black Duke is a doubtful starter in the Jockov Club Handicap. He looks well, but is probably not ready to run out a solidly-run mile._ Cashmau, who arrived, over-mght, was schooled over three fences. He :s still a. little lame, but it did not appear to affect bis jumping. Andy was given good strong work, and appears io be a much-imp.. red horse to when hb last raced. Decision, who is one of tho biggest horses ever seen at Wingatui, and Dick Travis were schooled over a round of the steeplechase fences. _ Decision finished tlio bettor ol the pair, though lie was inclined to take risks at one or two of tho smaller fences Thi&tlccrown gave, a good display over a round of the small hurdles, and looks 1 very well. . . , , i Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for tho Dunedin Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting close tomorrow evening, at 5 o’clock. Tho nominations for tho trotting events on the Kurow and Oamaru programmes been extended till tomorrow evening.
