1 IT,’ THE NEXT ATTRACTION Clara Bow’s initial starring picture, ‘lt,’ makes ono wonder whether they possess It, a marvellous power which Elinor Glynn, the writer of tho story, claims can attract people against their better judgment. Those who attend tho screening of ‘lt’ at the Empire Theatre on Friday next will see for themselves if the claim is correct. The following is how the story runs: —Betty Lou and her chums at the ’Waltham Department Store are discussing Elinor Glynn’s ‘ Cosmopolitan Magazine ’ story, ‘ It*’ Cyrus Waltham and his chum, Monty,_ walk through. The salesgirl congress immediately decides that their new manager has It. That evening, Betty passes "Waltham and Monty on tho street, and drops her hag. Monty is smitten, and when Cvrus departs catches up to Betty'’ and asks her to dinner. She accepts, but specifies tho Riiz as their destination. Hcttv is caring for a sick friend and her ‘child. .Molly (the sick friend) tells of a welfare home which wants to take tho infant, but Betty determines to take care of tlioin till Molly regains Her health. Monty trios to steer her lo a secluded table, but Betty will sit in no seat but the one adjoining Cyrus. Slie sets out to fascinate, and accomplishes her purpose. Several days later two settlement workers attempt to take Molly’s baby away. In desperation, Betty claims the child as _ hers, and proves that sho can support it. Monty hears this, and finds it hard to believe. Babbling of women’s dcccitfulness, ho tells ’Waltham everything. In addition to this, a. newspaper story appears. In the story Betty learns that she is a winner in tho monthly sales competition. Going to Waltham’s office for her bonus, sho is crushed by his attitude. Upset by her supposed infidelity, Cyrus plans a trip on his yacht. Monty comes to Betty with .a peaceoffering. She furiously tells him that he will have to help her teach Ins friend a lesson. Sho will compel him to propose, and then reject the oiler. The yacht party has an unexpected guest, who soon wins everyone with her charm. Only one woman takes dislike to Betty --Adda Van Norman, Cyrus’s society fiancee. Then Cyrus proposes ,to Betty, and she laughs in his iace._ But on turning a corner she bursts into tears. Longing for solitude, Waltham takes the wheel. Monty finds him there, and describes Betty’s condition. He thrusts the wheel in Monty’s hand and dashes after her. Knowing nothing about navigation, the ship, under Monty’s guidance, hits another. Adda is thrown overboard, and Betty goes after her. Cyrus and Monty attempt to pull the two girls in. hut Betty starts swimming toward home. V. altham catches her, and tho picture fades out as they ding to the ship’s anchor, making up their differences with a kiss. - 7V strong cast is responsible for the interpretation of the theme. Besides Clara Bow, who lias the part of Betty, there arc Antonio Moreno, William Austin. Jacqueline Gndsdon, Priscilla Bonner, and Eleanor Lawson.
