(Deceived September PI, at 12.20 p.m.) The newspapers are devoting considerable space to the authors’ week movement for f lie promotion of Australian literature. The Minister of Education (Mr \V. Davies) opened an exhibition covering original manuscripts of Australian authors, samples oi publications, and many other exhibits ol historic ami literary interest Air Davies urged that it was the duty of Australians to encourage their own authors ami publishers. Ho claimed that the work done by them was equal to any in the world. Showing the growth of the hook trade here, he said that during the past twelve months 335,(100 books were published in the Commonwealth, approximately one for every twenty people.
