RETURNED SOLDIERS' CHOIR

At His Majesty’s Theatre to-night the Returned Soldiers’ Choir will present the programme for the second concert of the season. The selection is of a comprehensive nature, and includes several now numbers. - ‘ Britain, Ask of Thyself,’ from the ‘Coronation Ode’ by Elgar, is a stirring patriotic song. The music moves to the compelling lines of a striking text, a pleasing part song, ‘ln Sunny Devon, which requires light and airy treatment, and..‘The Forgc_ Song,’ with anvil accompaniment, will bo novel items. . A tender Hebridian love song, ‘An Eriskay Love Lilt,’ has a dulcet melody matched to the lines “ When love thoughts' arc ripest, and the hrown eyes of Moray are gazing over the numerous lapping waters.” ‘A Prayer to Isis,’ by Laurent de llillc, has music of a high quality, and interprets an unusual arrangement of exceptional beauty. Other selections are ‘The Mcnucsingers,’ by Schumann, dainty and refreshing, and ‘Hark! How the Drums are Rolling, from the opera ‘La Fcglca,’ with ‘The Song of the Bow,’ notable for stirring march rythms. The assisting artists are Miss Elspeth Denholm, a pleasing soprano, who will bo hoard in London Ronald’s ‘ Prelude,’ and ‘ A Poet’s Life,’ by Elgar. Miss Madge Yates will make her appearance in two recitals, and Air J. A. Wallace, associated with Airs Wallace, will play the ‘ Kroutzer Sonata,’ by Beethoven. The choir soloists will be Alcssrs Stan Jeffs and Walter Strang. The Soldiers’ Quartette will sing an old_ negro folk song. Air Len James will oliiciato at the piano. .
