TRESPASSED M RACECOURSE
TWO PROBATIONERS CHARGEE) Two men were charged at the City Police Court to-day with having trespassed on the Waikouaiti racecourse during the progress of the race meeting on New Year’s Day. Roth defendants had been released on probation, and pleaded that they did not know that they were prohibited from going on to a course. In the second case the defendant’s name was suppressed. . In the ease against William Henry Frankpitt, the Chief Detective explained that defendant had been released on probation for assault. His conduct had not been very satisfactory. Tho defendant stated he did not know that ho was not allowed to go on to a racecourse. The' Probation Officer said that he was not prepared to say that defendant was not speaking the truth, though he generally pointed out to probationers that they were not allowed to go on to racecourses during the progress of race meetings. _ His conduct was not particularly satislactory. The Chief Detective: The regulations are printed in tho race books. The Magistrate: Very few people read them His Worship added that he did not want to prejudice defendant, but he warned Frankpitt that unless his conduct was satisfactory. in the future lie woidd ho brought before the court. The present charge was adjourned sine die. . . Defendant’s application to have his name suppressed was refused. In connection with tho charge against the man whoso name was suppressed, tho Chief Detective said that his conduct had been very satisfnctoThe Probation Officer said that defendant had a family o.i eleven, and if any penalty wore inflicted it would be a hardship on them. The defendant said, he went on the course to see “what it was like. He left when ordered to do so. The charge was dismissed.
