Gartside, Harcourt, Victoiia, Australia. The letter was as follows :■— " My dear, darling little girl,—l auj ■wrapping: this apple for you with my love inside it. It is tlie best one I have wrapped to-day, so I have wrapped it with pride, and when you eat it I hope you will think of me. I hope the one who gets this apple will bo a nice little English girl of about 36, 17, or 18 years of age. I -want a 7iice little English girl—ttio Australian girls are no good. They are rot like the English gir/s. I would like to correspond with you, so write- soon, won't you, dear? If you write I will send you my photo., and tljen you will be able to see what I am like. If it is a married m&n or woman who gets this apple, give it to your daughter: if it is a boy, or a dngle man or woman, give it to some nice little girl. I will be 18 years of age on March 1, so it is tdme I looked out for a girl. You are a dear, darling, sweet little thing, and I would like to hug you in my arms and to kiss you. I will now close my letter with 10,000 kisses. — I remain, yours for ever and ever, Fred. Smith." P.S.—You are the one—write soon. Oh, you dear, little darling, as sweet as a rose.
