According to the fishery experts of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, who have, just returned from making a survey of Isthmian waters, one novel resu't of the completion of the Panama Canal wi : ] be tho intermixing of the fish of the Atlantic and the Pacific. A second survey will be taken in from five to ten years' time in order to verify this prognostication. Mr S. F. Hildebrand, of tho Bureau of Fisheries, and Dr S. E._ Meek, of the Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago, have completed a collection of the fishes indigenous to the Panama zone for tho Smithsonian. All varieties, including those of the inland streams and Jakes, are represented.
