CITY POLICE COURT.

ThukSday, October 8,

(Before E; H. Carew, Esq., R.M., and G. E. Eliott, Esq., J.P.) Indecency.— Rebecca Dundon, for this offence, was sent to gaol for two months. The Factory Act.— Walter Clarke was charged with having employed a boy named Coxon after 2 p.m. on Saturday last, the same being contrary to the provisions of the above Act.—After evidence had been given by Inspector Hansen and the boy Cqxon, the Bench fined defendant 20s and costi. Arthur Soward was charged with having, on Saturday last, employed after 2 p.m. one Agnes Crocker.—Mr Sim appeared for defendant.—The police stated that previously the Company of which defendant was representative had been very particular in observing the provisions of the Act.—The Bench inflicted a fine of 20s and costs. Slaughter-house Regulations.—Alexander Mercer was charged with failing to comply with the slaughter-house regulations by submitting to the Taieri County Council his weekly returns of cattle killed by him.— Defendant pleaded guilty, but stated that he was ignorant of the law.—He was fined 20s and costs. A Mistake.—The charge of larceny preferred by Patrick Daly against Michael Parker, which was adjourned from Tuesday last, was withdrawn, as it was stated that Mr Daly had since found that his brother had given defendant permission to remove the pair of trousers thought to have been stolen
