WASTE LAND BOARD.

There were present at the Board's weekly meeting to-day Messrs Strode (in the chair), Butterwbrth, Clark, and Eeid, and the following business was done : Mr John Meade, secretary of the Hyde Progress Committee, asked advice as to whether Mr D. F. Main has a legal right to impound cattle belonging to other settlers, running on a block at the Rock and Pillar; also complaining of persons being allowed te take up land on said block without its fust being advertised for objection, and asking that Hyde, instead of Naseby, might be appointed as place of auction. On the first and second points the Board referred the committee to their solicitor. The other request was declined. Mr Marsh, of Cromwell, was informed that the Board could not interfere in respect to alleged illegal occupation of street lines and reserves in Cromwell. It was suggested that at the instance of the Cromwell Corporation a Bill should be introduced at the next sitting of the Assembly dealing with the matter.

In respect to Capt. M'Kenzie's letter of the 2nd mst,, tlie Board declined to recognise any such claim as was Bet forth in it. It was decided to recommend the Governor to reserve sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 15 to 19 inclusive, block 7, Balclutha, for the exhibition of cattle and agricultural and other produce.
