A NEW COSTUME.

To the Editor. i Sot,—Will you kindly insert in your next issue, for the benefit of your lady readers, I the following description of - a new costume which I saw worn by a person evidently jof good social standing, and certainly jof superior taste and sound sense. In my opinion this fine toilet would not edst more than L2O, which trifling sujm would be far more "judiciously laid out in this way than in paltry carpets or second-class furniture, which are scarcely ever seen except by the members of one's own household The head-dress consists of a broad-brimmed hat of a rich mustard- .- color, with black plumage, the effect of the contract between the two colors being very striking. The dress is a fine rich blue moire* antique, made in the latest fashidn, with 'only a semi train. The shoes are rather high in the heels, say about and tht buckles are large and plainly made, and in color about the same shade as the ! bat, the- hose are deep purple, the riticuje, \ .or satchel, is made of hogskin attached to a buff leather belt, both' seemingly of local manufacture ; the earrings of massive gold of the cornicopia pattern. Having, as I flatter myself I have, some taste in the ■matter of dres?, I have no hesitation ,in strongly recommending this new fashion to all ladies of educated tabtes. —lam, &c, Mary M'Tavish. South Dunedin, December 23.
