The steamer Botorua was hauled into the graving dock this morning for cleaning and repainting. The Union Company's steamer Taupo, with cargo and passengers for the Northern ports, sailed this afternoon. The barque Amateur, with a cargo of coal from Newcastle, was towed up this morning by the s s Jane and berthed alongside the railway pier. She left Newcastle on the 3rd inst.; had southerly winds until making the West Cape on the 13th, when she encountered a heavy S.S.W. gale with terrific sea, which continued for six days ; during the gale she was hove-to for forty-eight hours; passed the Solanders at 8 p.m. on the 19th; thence S. 'md S W winds to arrival. Captain Fisher reports the barque Bobycito leaving Newcastle on the Ist inst The s.s. She cleared tie Sound on the 9th inst. with a N E wind, which continued until within twenty miles of the Peninsula at 10 p.m., when the wind hauled round to the S.B. and increased to a gale, duriDtr whichshe was hove-to for forty-eight hours, and she drifted sixty-five miles north. The gale liavine moderated she had light S.E. winds, passed Banks Peninsula onthe 17th, ard got a light N.E. breeze yesterday which continued to arrival. Shipping Telegrams.
