Commercial.
The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption this day was L 1,288 12e. Mr Henry Driver (on behalf of the N.Z.L. and M.A. Co.) reports for the week ending December 13, as follows: Pat Cattle.—A full supply of 195 head were yarded to-daV, which, with the heavy supplies for the last fortnight, caused prices to recede 2s 6d to 3s per 1001b. About 60 head had to bo turned out, the trade buying very cautiously in anticipation of full supplies coming forward for Christmas. Best bullocks brought from LlO 10s to to Lit 10s; best cows from L7los to HO 10s—or equal to 27s 6d to 30s per 1001b for prime quality. At the yards we sold, on aocennt or Messss Grigg, M'Master, and others, 75 headj and during the week we have sold 60 head at quotations. Pat Calves.—Only a few were penned, which sold at from 25s to 40s, according to size and Quality. Fat Sheep.—Over 2,000 were penned, which, bein>in excess of requirements, made it impossible i'o quit them without a considerable rerlucl lju ou last week’s rates. To-day best quality cross-breds brought from 9s 6d to 12s 9d, or equal to l|d to 2d per lb. At the yards we sold 400. Pat Lambs.—An excessive supply of 700 penned, about one-half of which were passed—the remainder bringing from 6a to 10s, according to sise and quality. We sold 150 at these rates. Store Cattle continue scarce and in good demand at fully our late quotations, say L 7 10s to L 8 10s for bullocks, and L sto L 0 for cows. We shall offer at Mosgiel next week a very prime lot of 200 bullocks, quiet, and in good condition. Store Sheep.—Wehave instructions to sell several very good lots, but as prices have not yet been fixed, little or no business has been done. We, however, anticipate considerable business in this description ol stock during the next two m juths. Wool.—We have no later intelligence from Europe to report this week. A few small farmers lots ore selling—greasy half breds, to 10J; merinos, 8d to 9id; washed, 14id to 15id. Wool is coming to hand very slowly, so that no public sales of any importance have yet been bold. Sheepskins hive been in fair supply to day; sales brisk at advanced rates. Butchers’ cross-breds, 5s 6d; merinos, 4s 9d. Pelts are very unsaleable. Hides continue in good demand, more especially heavy well-conditioned parcels; prices equal to SJd for wet salted. Tallow.—The market is brisk for all descriptions. Inferior, 24s to 275; medium, 28s to 30s, Grain. —Wheat and flour are unchanged ; demand good J prices firm i wheat, 6s 6d; flour, Ll6. Oats are improved in value Idj feed samples, 2a 3J • milling, 2s 4d. Barley: There has been a little more doing in malting descriptions of medium quality at 3s 9d to 4s. Feeding samples are in good demand, bat scarce; prices here advanced fully 6d per bushel.
