In view of the approaching County elections it should be stated that the hours of polling now last from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. Between the 10th ult. and the 9th inst. the Immigration Office here received 34 nominations equal to 31£ adults, which will ba forwarded by the mail going out on Wednesday. There was a capital attendance at the Queen’s on Saturday night, when “ Lucia” and “Trial by Jury” were repeated. The latter increases in popularity, and we notice that the management have wisely determined to run it a few nights longer. This Week it will. be preceded by tho historical burlesque of “ Kenilworth,”
The Hon, Mr Bowen arrived in town on Saturday evening, and leaves for Wellingt.m on Wednesday. The telegraph authorities inform us that tire cable between Lisbon and Vigo, aud Lisbon and Falmouth is interrupted. lu oui report of the Presbytery’s meeting on Wednesday last, it was made to appear that the recommendation against introducing instrumental music, and animadverted on by Dr Copland, was the action of the session, whereas the fast is that it was passed by the Synod. Mr Matthias, purser of the s.s. Maori, reports that a passenger named Sinclair, who joined .the vessel at Hokitika for Jackson’s Bay, was missing between the hours of 4 and 7 a.m. on Monday last. The last person who saw him was the man relieved from the wheel at 4 a.m., who states that he appeared all r ght. When the Maori reached Jackson’s Bay at 7 a.m. Sinclair was not to bo found, and it is surmised that he had jumped overboard and was drowned.
At the Princess’s Theatre on Saturday evening Mr Emmet concluded his engagement, “ Jan ” being played for the last time and to a house crowned in the lower parts. Though this genial actor has appeared in Dunedin in but two characters, and those almost identical in nature, they served to show that Mr Emmet is ppssessed of great versatility as well as of originality. Fritz and Jan will long be remembered in Dunedin, where some of their quaint sayings have become household words.

The Pioneer Encampment, 1.0.0. F., meets at the Albany street Hall to-morrow, at eight o’clock p.m.
E. Heissel has taken premises nearly opposite those destroyed by fire this morning, and will resume businesi on Weenesday next. The musical festival, which was to have been held this evening at St. Joseph’s has been postponed till Monday next, owing to the wet weather.
A summoned meeting of the Court Pride of Dunedin, A.0.F., will be held in the South Australian Hall to-morrow evening, at eight o’clock.
