What the recent rise on wool implies has OC6II calculated, by the * Wairarapa News’:“Last year’s clip consisted of 163,000 bales, of 337 lbs. each, There is no reason to believe that the rise will not be maintained. Therefore, taking last year’s clip as the quantity (though the pieseut is promising to be larger) we hud that the Colony gains L 4 3s 3d per bale, or L 731.250 for the year’s clip.” Mr Barstow, the Auckland R.M., recently recommended the master of the local Reformatory, who asked for advice as to how to control an eight-year-old child, to procure a good-sized cask and put the boy in it, leaving the buug-hole open as a passage for air. The buug-hole, he said, should be turned to the wall, so that the prisoner would not be able to enjoy a very extended prospect if he used the aperture as a window. Referring to this, the ‘ New Zealand Times * asks “Is there no one to take the trouble to get Mr Barstow removed from his present position ? He should have no difficulty in obtaining a situation in sin American gaol, where refractory prisoners are suspended, by their thumbs, or stripped naked and the hose from a tire-engine turned on them for half an hour. Mr Stickley stated he was puzzled to knew how to treat the boy for the future, and Mr Barstow shows him tbe way. He is to be coopered up in an empty bairel with the bung out.
